Bubble Hash FAQ

Happy Valley Bubble Hash

One of the most popular and enduring forms of cannabis concentrate is Bubble Hash. Its purity, potency and versatility has contributed to making Bubble Hash a household name in the cannabis market for decades. Read the frequently asked questions and our answers about Bubble Hash below.

What is Bubble Hash?

Bubble Hash is a solvent-free cannabis concentrate that bubbles when exposed to flame. This concentrated form of cannabis is relatively high in THC content, and comes in a variety of colors. Bubble Hash can be made with any cultivar at any THC level, and are created with ice water and mesh sieves. Notably, Bubble Hash is made without the use of solvents, which is an attractive feature for health-conscious cannabis users.

Like other forms of cannabis, Bubble Hash has numerous consumption methods, and can be smoked, dabbed or vaped.

What is the difference between Bubble Hash and regular hash?

In short, Bubble Hash is more refined and generally more potent than regular hash, and can only be produced through the ice water extraction method. Traditional hash (short for hashish) has been used since roughly 900 AD, and includes a variety of THC levels, cultivars, colors and intended uses. Traditional Solvent Extraction methods include the following:

  • Butane extraction
  • CO2 extraction
  • Ethanol extraction
  • Alcohol extraction

How is Bubble Hash made?

Bubble Hash is defined by its solventless ice water extraction method. This entails freezing high-THC cannabis flower, soaking the flower in ice water, agitating and filtering the flower through sieves known as “bubble bags.” These filtration bags have mesh filters with incrementally smaller holes. Over the course of several extractions, the trichomes are separated from the ice water, which is then dried in the open air. The resulting product is stored and ready for consumption.

How potent is bubble hash?

While cannabis flower generally contains up to 20% THC, traditional hash can contain up to 50% THC. As a more refined form of hashish, Bubble Hash contains up to 60% THC.

Though it is stronger than flower and traditional hash, Bubble Hash is not the most potent form of cannabis. Solvent-based cannabis concentrates can contain over 90% THC.

Thought Bubble Hash has less THC than some solvent-based concentrates, it generally has a high level of terpenes. Terpenes exist within the trichomes of the cannabis plant, and interact with the human endocannabinoid system to produce complex and unique cannabis experiences.

How Do You Smoke Bubble Hash?

Like other forms of cannabis, Bubble Hash can be consumed in a variety of ways. Bubble Hash can be smoked, vaped, dabbed or cooked into edibles. As always, be cautious with your dosage with Bubble Hash in its various consumption methods.

Can you smoke Bubble Hash with a pipe?

Bubble Hash can be smoked with a pipe, and is one of the most popular means of consumption. Since bubble hash can fall through a cannabis pipe, it’s important to add a small screen into the bowl. The most effective way would be to add hash to the top of your pipe after loading with flower and smoking together.

Can you dab Bubble Hash?

As a cannabis concentrate, it is possible for Bubble Hash to be dabbed. For the best and most effective dabbing experience, it is important to consider several variables of your Bubble Hash:

  • Genetics
  • Quality
  • Curing
  • Size of trichomes
  • Melt factor

Ideally, you will want as little residual hash left on your nail as possible. The melt factor of your Bubble Hash determines how easily it will melt when it hits the nail. The genetics, quality, amount of curing and the trichome size all affect the melt factor, so be sure to ask your budtender if your Bubble Hash is readily dabbable.

Since Bubble Hash is made with solvent-free extraction methods, it generally does not dab as effectively as solvent-based concentrates. For this reason, some Bubble Hash consumers recommend pressing their hash into a rosin.

How Do You Store Bubble Hash?

Though it is often overlooked as a contributor to your cannabis experience, storage is crucial. Improper storage of your Bubble Hash can result in the loss of THC, terpenes, moisture and generally degrades the quality. Like other forms of cannabis, Bubble Hash is sensitive to the following:

  • Light
  • Temperature
  • Humidity
  • Air

When storing your Bubble Hash, be sure to follow cannabis storage best practices. This includes keeping your hash in the dark, avoiding bright light (artificial or sunlight), between 32° and 40° Fahrenheit, between 59% and 63% humidity and sealed away from open air. Storing Bubble Hash in a dark air-tight container (glass or polypropylene are ideal) are recommended. To maintain ideal cannabis storage temperatures, be sure to refrigerate your Bubble Hash.
